One issue I noticed was that no matter what I did, after EVERY reboot, windows updates and firewall would be turned off and I would turn them on again. This thing, from time to time, would lock up, freeze, or just shut down. At this point I had not run any avast scans. Eventually had just about everything up to date and installed Avast free. Used malwarebytes to remove a few things, but not a ton. Didn't look like they were using it for internet any time recently but, at some point it had been infected.įrom the start, things were difficult. They had an outdated version of system mechanic or something for antivirus. So, I'm working on a friend's computer that needed their XP updated to SP3 and they needed a new antivirus program.
